“A man is not learned until he can read, write and swim” - Plato
Water is touching, but not grasping. At best it is hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling, feeling.

Artist Laura Brouwer (1993) graduated in fine arts and design in education at ArtEZ University of Arts in 2016. Her graduation work reflected her passion for water and swimming in general. She likes to work with digital media and is inspired by artists such as Piet Mondriaan and Mark Rothko and their search for transcendental experience. Next to a part time job as a swimming teacher, she works on new interactive teaching methods in fine arts for primary education and she develops workshops for teachers about interactively using digital blackboards, amongst other projects.

Exhibition Connections: As an artist I try to find a balance between making digital art and my love for painting, and I let these components merge.

Waterwindow - Print
The pool is my safe haven, the frame in which I move. Swimming is my way out of my environment with too many stimuli and gives my overstimulated head a momentary pause. This work makes me as an artist feel nostalgic, I feel a longing to be one with the water. I want to immerse the viewer, give them the opportunity to experience my experience in the pool, this longing, too. As an artist I try to find a balance between making digital art and my love for painting, and I let these components merge.
