Herman Coppus (1955) graduated as a lecturer in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Maastricht. In 2017 he decided to focus exclusively on his art.
His visual work is inspired by modern art movements such as Constructivism and Geometric Abstraction, but nevertheless he developed his own visual language, characterized by a clear focus on color, rhythm and light effect. Experimenting with a variety of materials – paper, plastic, glass, etc – forms an essential part of his technique. The works of Herman Coppus vary not only in technique and material, but also differ from small, more intimate objects to monumental structures for the outer space. What they all have in common is the attention to the craft and the perfectionistic elaboration.
