Discipline: product design

The designer Tim van de Weerd strives for custom-made, functional and distinctive designs. Every design – whether it be a lobby showpiece or a custom-made cabinet – is uniquely fabricated. The shape is leading, the client’s requirements decisive. On this basis he chooses the right materials, with a keen eye for texture and quality. Craftsmanship and precision machining meet to generate elegant designs characterized by a distinctive, subtle tension. Every piece of furniture, object and interior thereby acquires timeless and fascinating details.

In 2014 Tim van de Weerd attracted a lot of attention at the Dutch Design Week Eindhoven, showing his elegant plant pots Monstera Magnifica and Monstera Fugiens. Prior to this he obtained his master's degree in Interior Design at the Utrecht School of the Arts. In 2011 he decided to go independent as a designer, and he currently works from his studio at Vechtclub XL, a creative hotspot in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

MagazineRek is a steel magazine rack finished with an elastic cord, designed to hold newspapers and magazines. The shape alters as the rack is put to use: the higher the pile, the lower the laced elastic cord drops. This design gives the heavy reading material a playful sense of lightness.

MagazineRek is made of sheet metal and 7 meters of elastic cord. The steel sheet is cut out by a computer-guided laser and finished by hand. After being covered with a white-grey powder coating, each MagazineRek is laced with elastic cord. This elastic cord is available in several colours to match every contemporary interior.
