Discipline: ceramics

Inge Simonis studied design at the Art and Design Academy St. Joost in Breda (NL). After her study she moved back to The Hague, the city where she grew up.

Simonis designs and produces small and exclusive series of functional objects, which range from tableware to vases and lamps. Simonis' work is characterized by its clear and minimalist design, which is often underpinned by a sense of surprise and chance. Function is at the centre of her work, but Simonis enjoys playing and extending this concept, she likes to be lead and surprised by coincidence and process.

The design of the vases is influenced by the shapes of chimney pots. Emphasizing the natural beauty of objects that were primarily engineered to serve a function. In this collection Inge used the characteristic shapes of the common Dutch chimney pots, out of their natural context. During the process of designing she discovered the endless possibilities of combining these industrial parts. For this exhibition she produced the coloured limited edition series.
